Opioid Settlement Strategic Plan

North Carolina is set to receive $1.5 billion from a $56 billion national opioid settlement. This substantial funding aims to provide crucial relief to communities deeply affected by the opioid crisis. The allocated funds will be directed toward supporting essential initiatives such as treatment, recovery, harm reduction, and other life-saving programs and services across the state.

To ensure that these funds address the specific needs of communities, the Southwestern Commission is working with the seven counties in the region to create a strategic plan. The Southwestern Commission has contracted with Ten Biz, Inc. and the Omni Institute to complete this plan. Focus group interviews have been completed to gather public input regarding potential uses of the funds. Additionally, the Southwestern Commission distributed an online survey to gain valuable input from those unable to attend focus group sessions. The input gathered from these efforts will guide the strategic allocation of resources to areas that require the most assistance. This initiative reflects a comprehensive approach to addressing the opioid epidemic and fostering positive change in Region A.

This project is made possible through the generous support of the Dogwood Health Trust.

Region A Opioid Prioritization Survey

The Southwestern Commission, in conjunction with TenBiz, Inc., conducted a survey in 2023 and early 2024 to identify ongoing substance use disorder efforts and pinpoint any existing gaps in our current system.
