Southwestern NC HOME Consortium

Southwestern North Carolina HOME Consortium is a group of governments coming together to receive Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds from HUD.

What is Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME)?

Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) is a federal grant program through Housing and Urban Development (HUD) providing grant funds on a reimbursable basis to provide decent affordable housing to low-income households, expand the capacity of non-profit housing providers, strengthen the ability of state and local governments to provide housing, and leverage private-sector participation.

HOME can be used for a wide range of activities including:

  • New construction
  • Rehabilitation
  • Down payment assistance
  • Rental assistance
  • Site improvements
  • Acquisition of property
  • Relocation costs
  • Project related soft costs
  • Activities of Community Development Housing Organizations (CHDOs)
  • Program administration, planning, capacity building (up to 15% of the budget)

How do these grants make a difference in our area?

The SW NC HOME Consortium serves Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Clay, and Graham counties. Haywood County is the lead entity for the consortium and Southwestern Commission administers the program. The Consortium receives funds annually and conducts an application cycle to award HOME funds based on the Consolidated Plan’s identified priorities. The next application cycle will occur in the Spring of 2025.
